Opel In Bad Shape And What They Need To Do To Cope With It
Nick Reilly, Opel’s Executive Director, spoke about the bad situation in which the manufacturer from Russelsheim in Germany and about the solutions that he must take.
During the congress held in Bilbao, the executive director Nick Reilly from Opel, said that the carmaker from Russelsheim must regain the image it had in Germany. To demonstrate how much has sunk Opel in Germany, Reilley Nick presented some statistics regarding the process of purchasing new cars.
Currently, in Germany are registered 41.74 million cars of which 12.8% are produced by Russelsheim manufacturer, which means that a car from eight has an Opel origin. Regarding the last five months in Germany were registered 1.18 million cars which are Opel copies 7.4%, which means that a car from 13 belongs to Russelsheim manufacturer.
The company believes that this gap is an opportunity to increase again. According to The Financial Times publication, the manufacturer from Russelsheim wants to offer a discount to holders of Opel copies, in amount of 2500 euros, if they agree to give up on the old car for a new one. This Opel’s policy is similar to the renewal program of its fleet, begun last year in Germany.
Opel has announced it will not abandon the development project of a city model, although it has received financial support from the German state. The mini car is like a sporting alternative to the current Agila.
Within the company, the mini car is baptized Junior, and the future Mini models will be positioned as a more sporty version of the current Agila. Neither electric version project was not excluded, although for its funding, Opel will need the help of the German state.
Nick Reilly, the president of Opel, said that the public should not imagine that the development program for this model has been delayed or abandoned. “Opel develops the mini model in Germany and the operations are arising as planned.”
Also, Reilly has shown confidence in the company’s financial security, arguing that “liquidities are good and the company’s finances are at a reasonable level.
